After March 2, 2016 as a result of recent law changes, the STAR program is being reconstructed.
NYS has decided that the Tax & Finance Department will administer New Star applications, Basic or Enhanced for all new property owners, taking the duty from your local assessor.
Instead of the STAR exemption being deducted form your school tax bill, you will pay your FULL school tax bill and will receive the same STAR amount benefit in the form of a check directly from the state.
Please be advised that you may want to contact your escrow account to verify the correct school tax withholdings.
